Prospective Students

Preface: The academic expectations of Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy are high and the rules are strict because we want our students to have the best chance possible to be prepared for college or a career and to feel safe and happy at school. We do not require any tests to enroll and there is no tuition, however, we expect all students and their families to support the academic program and the strict code of conduct. In return, Rowe-Clark will provide excellent and caring teachers, a safe environment, excellent communication with parents and an interesting and challenging college-preparatory academic program.

College preparation: Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy has rigorous college preparatory programs that prepare students for college and scholarships.

Make-up classes: Since it is so important for our students to do well in their classes, it is required that all students pass 100% of their classes each year in order to be promoted to the next grade.  Classes not passed must be made up right away at a cost of $135 per class.

Sports and Extra-curricular activities: There are many activities and sports including band, chorus, dance, drama, student council, soccer, basketball, swimming, cross-country, baseball, softball, girls’ and boys’ rugby, volleyball and Marine Corps ROTC.  Students also have many community service opportunities available.

Discipline: Rowe-Clark is a place for students who are serious about their education and want a safe and proper learning environment.  Therefore, students who break school rules, including the dress code, will receive 1 or more demerits.  For every 4 demerits, a student must pay $5 and serve a 3-hour detention.  Earning more than 12 detentions in the freshman year will result the student not being promoted to the sophomore year.

Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy – Other Information

1. Textbooks and supplies: Students and their families will be responsible for purchasing textbooks and supplies.

  • The estimated cost of textbooks each year per student is $140. Students will then be able to sell the books back to the school or keep some of the books if they like.
  • The reason for this policy is to make students more responsible and teach them to value books and other things related to their education. We believe that students will treat their books better and value them more if they own them.
  • There will be large savings to the school as there is often great waste in lost textbooks at high schools. The savings will be used for other school programs and allow class size to be kept small.
  • No student will be denied books because their family cannot afford them. With proper documentation, students may earn money towards book purchase or be eligible for book grants.

2. Transportation: Students and their families are responsible for transportation to and from Rowe-Clark.

3. Calendar: Noble Street campuses will follow the same calendar as other Chicago Public Schools with two exceptions.  The school year began on August 20, 2007, which is earlier than CPS and some CPS holidays will be school days for Noble Street.  Rowe-Clark will observe the same winter break and spring break as CPS and end on the same day as CPS.

4. Daily Schedule: The school day is from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm.

5. Discipline:  In addition, Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy will show no tolerance whatsoever for gang related items, illegal substances, alcohol, or tobacco
